Requiem for a band
The point was: "look at them brothers and friends,
Who've lived and died this way",
The point was: "the grass is greener somewhere,
We'll miss it if we stay",
Sun is fair on the land of the braves,
Sure we felt that way,
Sun is fair when you're heading somewhere,
And we were, I say,
We hit a town, at the end of the day,
We'd made it up OK,
Bars and nightclubs, and Jimmy's girlfriend,
We played songs clearly meant to be played.
Songs we'd played on the way,
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
So we walked and sung 'til another town,
Would come across our way,
So we walked in the light of the sun,
Anywhere our base.
The second town, we were a little less scared,
We had made a name,
Jimmy made any girl that he met,
I was myself not to complain.
We were proud and we wanted it said,
Our little band was great,
We were stubborn and easily led,
Well it's hard to explain,
Easy life leads to pain,
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
The third town, we were so sure of ourselves,
Jimmy was on pills,
The third town, we were quite engaged,
We were bold and fat as pigs,
We had a fight once after one of our gigs,
A man came and said,
Boys you should change your handling things,
Play the disco, someday,
A flower rises, and a flower decays,
And it's the same for bands,
A flower rises, and a flower decays,
Like a song that's played all day,
Like the songs we played on the way,
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
The last town was like the people we met,
I'm ashamed to say,
The last town was like the ones we became,
Winos and desperate,
I came to think about them brothers and friends,
Left home and away,
That if we came back things wouldn't be the same,
They'd dispise us, in a way.
So that evening, a council was held,
And we all voted OK,
But as I stood up the feeling was there
That we'd lost ourselves on the way.
We had lost ourselves on the way.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
